. Violent Crime Is Increasing

  • Pitt County recorded 12,800 total crimes in 2023, including 643 violent crimes.

  • Violent crime increased 3% in the past year.

  • The most common violent offenses were aggravated assault (76.8%) and robbery (14%).

2. High Rates of Violent Deaths

  • In 2022, Pitt County had 47 violent deaths.

  • 69% of homicides and 63% of suicides over the past decade involved a firearm.

  • 35% of homicide deaths were linked to arguments or conflicts.


Recognizing patterns early helps prevent escalation and long-term harm.

  • Sudden isolation from friends, church, or family

  • Extreme jealousy, monitoring phones or social media

  • Financial control or restricting access to transportation

  • Children showing fear, regression, or sudden behavior changes

  • Unexplained injuries or excuses that don’t match the situation


    Pitt County Family Development Corporation, Inc. recognizes the need to partner with other organization to support Pitt County families:

    • Family‑violence prevention programs

    • Youth conflict‑resolution training

    • Community ambassador networks

    • Trauma‑informed parent education
